Fundraising updates: Trinity 2007 During Trinity 2007, the first term for this year’s new committee, RSSAF earned a net income of £3611.91. Our summer garden party was a fundraising success, and we continued to benefit from cookbook and t-shirt sales. We also received many donations for the Thomas Schmelzer Race Challenge. Thanks to Thomas and his donors for their efforts and generosity! In Trinity term, the new committee also made its first grant, to the Vumani/CARE organization, of £1000. Michaelmas 2007 Our first events of Michaelmas 2007 have been big hits. At the annual RSSAF Auction we raised almost £2100, making the auction one of the most successful in recent years. Our second event was not a fundraiser but was instead aimed at promoting discussion and awareness of Cecil Rhodes’ legacy in southern Africa. About 100 people attended Professor Beinart’s excellent talk on Rhodes and the subsequent discussion and drinks. Mostly recently, Milner Hall was packed on the night of the Rugby World Cup finals (thanks to the Warden’s generous invitation to watch the game at Rhodes House).
