Oxford student awarded 'reverse Rhodes' scholarship to Canada
Hollie Carr, a British student at Oxford, has been awarded a scholarship from the Canadian Rhodes Scholars Foundation (CRSF) to pursue postgraduate study in Canada. Currently studying for an MPhil in Development Studies at Lincoln College, Oxford, during her time in Canada Hollie hopes to focus on the way societies interact with changing environments. She has worked with the United Nations Development Programme in Mozambique, focusing on disaster risk reduction, as well as being extensively involved in Cambodian development programmes. She is currently volunteering for Oxfam's gender and food justice campaign.
Hollie expressed her delight at gaining the scholarship, remarking: "I am incredibly honoured to be awarded a CRSF Scholarship and excited about the possibility to pursue my research interests in Canada. I am very grateful for the opportunity and cannot wait to begin my studies there."
The CRSF Scholarships are awarded to permanent UK residents who have graduated or will graduate from Oxford within 24 months of the application process. Scholars are chosen on the basis of character and extra-curricular activities as well as academic excellence.
