Australian National University: New Chancellor

We are delighted to report that The Hon. Kim Beazley (Western Australia & Balliol, 1973) will be the next Chancellor of the Australian National University. He will take up his appointment in January, 2009. Many congratulations!

University of Cape Town: New Vice-Chancellor

Our warmest congratulations to Professor Max Price (South Africa-at-Large & Magdalen, 1980) who has been appointed Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Town. NAACP

Our warmest congratulations also to Ben Jealous (New York & St. Antony's, 1997) who has been appointed the President-elect of the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People), the United States' oldest and largest civil rights association. Caribbean Honour

The Rhodes Trust is delighted to report that Jamaica's Professor Rex Nettleford (Jamaica & Oriel 1957) heads the list of four outstanding Caribbean nationals who will be awarded the Order of the Caribbean Community (OCC). The conferment of these awards will take place at the 29th regular meeting in July 2008 in Antigua and Barbuda.

Knighthood

Our warmest congratulations to Professor Sir John Bell (Alberta & Magdalen, 1975), Regius Professor of Medicine at the University of Oxford and also a Rhodes Trustee, who was knighted in the 2008 New Year's Honours list for his services to medicine.
